General Description

3L Architects + Industrial Designers were founded by Veronika Lenze, Theodor Lenze and Klaus Th. Luig in 1989. The vision of the companies´ founding members was to establish an architectural firm that is driven by a holistic approach to buildings and building processes. Instead of just design-oriented services, 3L provides services that include integrative solutions that consist of design, technology, economy and ecology. The background of the three founders is composed of an education in civil engineering and architecture. 3L regards the building process within the framework of holistic Project management –from project development to investment and realisation, site steering and facility management – in order to improve the process approach and the building products themselves continuously. The result is a holistic approach that focuses on enhancing the quality of the built environment. 3L has realised a large number of public buildings of various kinds over the last 25 years. Since 1990 3L has been frequently involved in R&D projects in order to improve building processes, applied technologies and/or new product solutions for structures, facades and mechanical services equipment. Often the developments were looking for a smarter solution while providing high-end performance qualities for a comparably affordable price. In 2000 one of the most appreciated R&D driven projects the “Office 2015” concept was developed and afterwards realised. Funded as a national project by the land of North Rhine-Westphalia, the 3L designers and engineers created a new type of an office building in collaboration with partners from the German and Dutch building industries. One of the many successful outcomes was the development and Introduction of approximately 40 new innovative products and service solutions into the market by 3L and other SME partners. Additionally 3L has broad experience in realising demonstrations as a result of R&D work. Since the start of the firm, 3L has been involved in roughly 35 national and international project funded by foundations, the land of North Rhine-Westphalia the country, the ECSC and the EU within several FPs.
