This case study is a multi-apartment block, located in Ancona and built in 1980. The building is composed of 100 dwellings, 6 floors and total gross area of 1720 m2. The load bearing structure is realized with precast reinforced concrete bearing walls 12 cm thick. In the outer envelope the concrete panels are plastered on the outer side while in the internal side they are insulated with a 4 cm thick glass wool insulation and finished with a plasterboard panel laying adjacent to the internal environment. The total thickness of the external wall is 23 cm and the initial thermal transmittance at the time of realization was U=0.65 W/m2K. The balconies are prefabricated concrete panels are replaced by a wall of perforated brick (12 cm thick) with a total thermal transmittance U = 0.55 W/m2K. The glazed surface are made with insulating glazing and metal frames without thermal break (U=3.28 W/m2K). The total building heat loss coefficient is 15417 W/K and the total thermal energy consumption is equal to 244240 kWh/year, generated by natural gas boilers (one in each dwelling).
