D3.6: Validation report of improved
indoor environment quality
Summary
P2Endure promotes evidence-based innovative solutions for deep renovation based on prefabricated Plug-and-Play (PnP) systems. Within this framework, the importance of Indoor Environmental Quality (IEQ) is relevant since
the first function of a building is to provide a comfortable and healthy living environment. For this reason, an
innovative solution, the Comfort Eye, and traditional solutions have been adopted by P2Endure for the monitoring
of the IEQ and acoustic performance before and after the renovation. The use of the Comfort Eye system will
provide the KPIs to assess envelope performance and IEQ in terms of thermal comfort and air quality. The idea is
to feed the design with important information about the building IEQ and validate the improvement of IEQ.
This report presents the deployment of the Comfort Eye in the selected demonstration cases of the P2Endure
project. In particular, the installation and operationalisation of the system in Warsaw, Gdynia, Enschede and
Menden and the installation with traditional solutions in Lekkerkerk and Genoa is presented. The evaluation of
thermal comfort for Reggio Emilia was done with questionnaires.
The results from the pre and post monitoring are reported to validate the improvement of IEQ achieved using the
P2Endure solutions. The document also reports an analysis of the different monitoring systems used for the
evaluation of IEQ and the integration of Comfort Eye technology within the BIM framework.
The results from the monitoring campaign and comparison before and after renovation have highlighted the
efficiency of the renovation works and the improved IEQ after renovation.
The developed solutions have commercial potential for IEQ assessment before and after the renovations.
Possible performance indicators are defined and proposed - key performance indicators (KPI) - necessary to
characterize the buildings in their current state and evaluate the effects of possible energy requalification
interventions to which the buildings may be subjected and therefore support the design team in selecting the
optimal renovation solution.
They are necessary in the post-renovation phase to validate the improvement of the IEQ.
The proposed methodology complies with current regulations in terms of thermal performance of the envelope,
thermal comfort, and air quality. In this way product or contribution of the deliverables adds to the exploitable
outcome of the project.
The target audience are architects, construction companies, companies working in construction.
The P2Endure solutions are suitable for validation of the IEQ, and the comparison between the various monitoring
methods allowed to validate the Comfort Eye as a tool for the evaluation of the IEQ
